What to Do on the Fraser Coast

On the Fraser Coast, one of the most popular things to do is to head to Fraser Island.  A unique natural environment that has developed over 800,000 years, this sand island has the distinct title of being the largest sand island in the world, and one of the only places that the rainforest literally grows on sand.  Fraser Island is a fantastic place to do some fishing in the freshwater lakes, picnic on the sand dunes, and hike over the towering cliffs.

Another popular destination, Hervey Bay, is Australia's whale watching capital.  Here you can experience a date with the humpback whales that you will see from late July to early November.  You can take a whale watching cruise which will sure to focus on these majestic animals.

Who can forget the Great Barrier Reef as well, if you want to head out for some much needed scuba diving and snorkelling.  Perhaps you may be content to sit on the beach and watch many of the water activities take place.

Lastly, there is plenty to do inside of the towns with loads of shopping, visiting artists, local art galleries, museums galore, and other cultural events.  For the kids, there are also your traditional tourist attractions such as mini-golf, giant waterslides, and plenty of other water activities.

Fraser Coast Events

One of the Fraser Coasts most esteemed events is the Fraser Coast Cultural Festival.  This annual event takes place every March and its purpose is to promote the cultural heritage found throughout the Fraser Coast.  With demonstrations from all over the world, this festival has cuisines from around the globe, as well as arts and crafts from different walks of life.  At this event, the mission is to allow everyone to celebrate their similarities as well as their differences.

For the bird enthusiasts, you can't miss out on the Fraser Island Bird Week that happens every year in May.  You will learn about the coastal rainforest birds as well as the Ramsar wetland birds, and with over 354 recorded species of birds it is hard to miss out on this fantastic event.

Finally, in July, you have one of the biggest Family Fishing Classics known as the Mitsubishi Rainbow Beach Family Fishing Classic.  With over $100,000 in prizes in 11 different categories you can do some world class beach or reef fishing with the entire family.
