Activity Info:

Getting around

The fastest way to get around the city centre is by train or taxi. Driving in the city centre can be a stressful experience with lots of one way streets, heavy traffic and expensive parking. Expect to pay around $30 per day to park in the city. The train does a city loop which is quick, and taxis are readily available throughout the city. There is an extensive network of buses around the city but can be slow, particularly in peak hour. One of the most pleasant ways of getting around if possible is by ferry which offers a scenic view of the city and surrounds.

Public transport is a cheap and easy way of getting around the city and tickets are available which combine rail, ferry and buses. All day tickets, tourist hop on hop off buses and day tripper passes are available which may be more cost effective if you are planning to do a lot of travelling or sightseeing. See www.131500.com.au for trip planner information for all modes of public transport.

Sydney Sights and Activities
Sydney has many sights and activities to appeal to the masses. The popular Harbour bridge climb is a breathtaking experience and offers the best views of the city and surrounding areas.  If something more relaxing is more your thing another way to enjoy the harbour and soak up the atmosphere is to take one of the many sailing or boat cruises. Another cheaper option is to take the ferry from Circular Quay to Manly which has some of the best views of the Harbor Bridge and Opera House. For the children there are plenty of things to keep them occupied including a visit to Taronga Zoo, the power house museum, botanical gardens, Sydney Olympic Park at Homebush, or the Sydney Aquarium to name a few.

Events and Festivals
Sydney is the place to be for festivals, events and the best fireworks in the country.  There are many festivals throughout the year, particularly in the summer months. For details and dates of what is on during the year go to www.sydneyfestivals.com.au for your favourite event.

The year starts off with celebrations of New Years fireworks around the Harbor Bridge and soon follows with the Sydney Festival in early January. There is an array of international and national performing and visual arts in various locations around the city.  Enjoying the festivals doesn't have to be expensive with the city hosting many free activities and events, including Jazz in the Domain, the many parades, fireworks and celebrations for Australia Day on the 25th.

There are spectacular events throughout the year and these are a few of the highlights that attract thousands of visitors to the city. The world famous Mardi Gras and Tropfest film festival in February, The Royal Easter show, Jazz food and wine festival in May, Film festival in June, City to Surf in August, Bathurst in October, Carols in the domain and the Sydney to Hobart yacht race in December.

Weather Info:

When to go?
Sydney is a vibrant city and has a comfortable temperature most of the year round. If you are planning to hit the beach and enjoy warmer weather and a bit of humidity, the best time to come is from late November to February. However, during the school holidays from late December to mid January and around Easter expect to pay more for accommodation. From March to April and September to October the weather is pleasant usually ranging from 22-25 degrees. In April there tends to be a higher chance of showers but they don't usually last long.
