Getting Around the Blue Mountains

Self driving is one of the easiest ways to get around the Blue Mountains.  There are many self drive itineraries that will take you through all the great villages, scenic attractions and lookouts.  Everything in the Blue Mountains is well posted and awaiting your arrival.  Rental cars are available here as well if you came on Sydney Tour or another means of transportation.

There are also several taxi companies in the major towns that may or may not bring you from village to village.  It depends on where they are located and how far you want to go.  There are many Blue Mountain tours that come through here or that you can start in the Blue Mountains as well.  These organised tour companies take you between many of the tourist attractions and all major lookouts, bushwalking trailheads, and hotels.  You can hop on and off as you please.  There are also guided tours that last from one day to several days.

What to Do on your Blue Mountain Tour

The Blue Mountains are surrounded by thousands of hectares of pristine wilderness which gives you a lot to do while you are on your Blue Mountain Tour.  With an abundance of flora and fauna, this is an outdoor lover's paradise.  The wildlife is plentiful with an array of birds, kangaroos, wallabies, as well as many exotic animals you would never expect.  You can head to the Nepean River to see spectacular views or just take the time to walk among the dozens of villages, each with its own charm and appeal.

Bushwalks and hiking are the main draw in this area, and almost everyone of any fitness level can find walks that last from one hour to several days.  On your bushwalk you may want to pass by The Three Sisters.  It is a rock formation that stands at 922, 918, and 906 metres tall.  It is quite the sight to behold and has a great legend behind it that is worth the trip to see them.

There are many other attractions in the Blue Mountains such as Scenic World where they have rides, cafes and dining that takes you to the top of the Blue Mountains.  You can also enjoy the Zig Zag Railway that takes you through the Blue Mountains.  There are plenty of caves, caverns, museums, shopping, art galleries, and trolley tours through the various villages as well.

Blue Mountain Events

During the year there are tons of Blue Mountain events in the villages and surrounding areas.  The Winter Magic Festival is one of the largest events in the Blue Mountains.  Organized by the community, this festival celebrates the change of seasons with community activities, entertainment, and culture programs that show off the beauty of the Blue Mountains.

Springwood Foundation Day is another popular even held in April.  In the centre of Springwood there is a day set aside for family fun and entertainment that includes a parade, dance, art, street buskers, and so much more.  Held on Main Street, it is the epitome of what the Blue Mountains are all about.

Then you have the Blue Mountains Folk Music Festival that is a three day event dedicated to the music of the Blue Mountains.  Featuring acoustic folk, jazz and world music, this is one of the Blue Mountains premiere events.  The other music festival that draws a large crowd is the Kowmung Music Festival that takes place in unusual venues such as limestone caves and cattle sheds.  It is a way to see the Blue Mountains and listen to incredible music at the same time.

Blue Mountain Accommodations

The Blue Mountain accommodations vary according to village.  There are many wonderful spa and resorts high up in the mountains and yet there are a ton of backpacker and caravan parks that are in the villages and outside as well.  Bed and Breakfasts are extremely popular and are quite well received.  Always serving hearty breakfasts and great hospitality, they are booked up far in advance.  Also, for the hikers who want something more than a caravan park, there are many self contained cottages on the way as well as remote cabins so you can relax after your long days of walking and sightseeing.  There are your typical hotels and motels as well located in some of the bigger villages.  Tourism is huge in the Blue Mountains and you are sure to find something in your price range that you will love and enjoy.

Places To Eat on your Blue Mountain Tour

Food and wine certainly is an essential part of your Blue Mountain tour, and the dining experience certainly doesn't disappoint.  With quality produce, tantalising flavours from around Australia along with the fresh air and outdoor exercise you are sure to eat more than you ever though possible.  Many of the restaurants sit high upon the Blue Mountains just waiting for you to come up and visit.  Ashcroft's in particular is one of the best dining experiences you can have in the upper Blue Mountains.  Fresh sharp flavours, exquisite seafood, and even a little Vietnamese flair make this one of the most sought after restaurants.  Around the edge of the World Heritage Blue Mountains National Park there are many delightful eateries that draw you in and make you want to stay, eat, drink and relax.

Entertainment in the Blue Mountains

There is always something happening in the Blue Mountains.  From live music as several of the local venues and hotels, to screenings of the latest movies, you can dance, drink, and enjoy the night on any night of the year.  The local bars are wonderful places to enjoy an open fire and play a little pool, or you can head to the larger nightclubs on a Saturday to kick up your heals.  For something special on your Blue Mountain tour, you can head to an underground concert at Jenolan Caves.  It truly is magical sitting among some of the most beautiful caves in the world.  For more outdoor excitement you can venture out to the bush at night to listen for some of the wildlife that explores the national parks at night.  There are many Blue Mountain tours that head out in the evening, and even one that includes ghosts, murder, legends, and strange creatures.  It is extremely exciting!
